Artificial Intelligence Policy
The Journal of Islamic Finance and Economic Studies (JIFES) supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scholarly publishing. To maintain academic integrity and publication ethics, the following principles apply:
-
Use of AI Tools
Authors may use AI-assisted technologies for language improvement, translation, idea organization, or other supporting purposes. However, AI must not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution, critical analysis, interpretation, or scholarly judgment. -
AI and Authorship
Artificial Intelligence tools, including generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires intellectual contribution, accountability, and responsibility that can only be assumed by human authors. Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to JIFES. -
Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must transparently disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation, data analysis, coding, image generation, or other research processes. The disclosure should clearly state the name of the AI tool used and the purpose of its use. Routine tools used solely for spelling and grammar correction do not require disclosure. -
Accuracy and Research Integrity
Authors are responsible for verifying all AI-assisted content, including facts, data, citations, references, and DOI information. AI must not be used to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent data, references, research findings, images, or other scholarly information. -
Confidentiality in Peer Review
Reviewers and editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Unpublished manuscripts, supplementary files, reviewer reports, or confidential editorial information must not be uploaded to AI platforms that do not guarantee data privacy and confidentiality. Final peer-review and editorial judgments must remain the responsibility of qualified human reviewers and editors. -
Editorial Action
JIFES reserves the right to request clarification regarding the use of AI and to take appropriate editorial action when AI is used in an undisclosed, misleading, unethical, or inappropriate manner. Such actions may include manuscript revision, rejection, correction, withdrawal, or retraction in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policy.
JIFES emphasizes that Artificial Intelligence may assist scholarly work, but it cannot replace human intellectual responsibility, academic judgment, and accountability.
